Atavist are a doom/sludge band based out of Manchester, they are heavy, they are slow, they are loud. They have recently put out a split with Toronto's Nadja, the second time the two bands have collaborated together.

The band formed in 2004, they have had a number of line up changes within that time with I think Chris being the only remaining original member. Jamie Sykes (Burning Witch) was once a part of the line up during a period in which he was living in the UK.

This was shot in the toilets of a basement club in Leeds, anyone who's been there will probably recognize the low ceiling and comics pasted over the sweaty, bulging walls. I really like this shot, I wanted to achieve something very dark and abstract, very similar to the bands music - we were originally going to do the shot out doors in the drenched city centre just by Big Eats/Wetherspoons but I remembered how cool the rest room looked from last time I was in there so decided to shoot some stuff in there.

Light source is a mixture of a un-covered circular tube light and flash (580EXII w/ stofen) tethered to a WT at 1/128 pointing back towards the camera from the brighter source to create a little flare.
